Lodge's wilderness setting has abundant wildlife
Costa Rica’s El Remanso Rainforest Lodge says it offers plenty of creature comforts in a part of the world that offers plenty of creatures.
The lodge, found on southwestern Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, says it serves as both a luxury rainforest lodge and an opportunity to experience one of the most “biodiverse places on the planet in comfort, authenticity, and harmony with nature.”
The property protects hundreds of acres of rainforest, providing a sanctuary for many bird and mammal species.
Turney Maurer of CK Representation, which promotes the lodge to North Americans, notes lodge grounds host parrots, toucans, four types of monkeys, sloths and other rainforest dwellers.
“You’re staying in a lovely villa but around 5 in the morning you’ve got monkeys on the canopies, you’ve got birds flying overhead, sometimes stopping on a balcony,” he said during a recent webinar. “It’s a one-of-a-kind nature experience. I’ve been to Costa Rica 25 times in 6 years and this felt more like an authentic nature experience than anywhere else I’ve been.”
Some of the forest surrounding the lodge dates back centuries while other areas are regenerated on land once logged.
The lodge relies on renewable energy and also has its own garden to produce food.
“Phenomenal” sunsets can be seen from the lodge restaurant, Maurer added.
Maurer noted El Remanso has different accommodation options, including deluxe ones with wrap-around balconies. One unit has two bedrooms that can comfortably accommodate a family of six.
Zip-lining and waterfall rappelling are available on lodge grounds, overseen by what Maurey labelled “expert English-speaking guides.”
The lodge also has numerous trails leading through the rainforest. Maurer added that the lodge has a wellness menu offering the likes of massages and yoga. The lodge has Wifi but that Wifi tends to be weaker in the villas, something Maurer said shouldn’t bother guests. “You want to put that phone away and reconnect with nature.”
The lodge is close to a beach and Maurer noted beach-visiting guests can learn to surf, explore mangrove swamps and most of the year go whale-watching.
