“The bride and groom had always dreamed of a destination wedding,” shared Jaswal. “As the first couple in their family to celebrate this way, they wanted to ensure their guests had an unforgettable experience. They carefully chose a resort that would provide the best overall guest experience, and everyone came together to celebrate and support them.

Our biggest challenge that week was the weather. We experienced unusually strong, cold winds, so a lot of our planning focused on keeping guests comfortable during the outdoor events and ceremonies. The wind even managed to carry away some of the décor at times!  In the end, we adapted every detail, including the bride’s hairstyles, to be wind-approved, and the celebrations went off beautifully!”

“Having most of the people we love most away together for multiple days made the wedding feel more like a vacation with our favourite people instead of just one fast event,” the bride told Travel Courier. “One of the best parts of doing a destination wedding was that we already had time to catch up with family and friends throughout the trip, so on the actual wedding day we could genuinely enjoy each other and stay present instead of feeling pulled in a million directions trying to catch up with everyone. Pretty much every second of the day was our favourite for a lot of reasons, but if we had to pick a couple, it would be finally standing at opposite ends of the aisle – that first eye contact – it feels almost ethereal after months and months of planning.  seeing people from completely different parts of our lives laughing/dancing together like they’d known each other forever and realizing how lucky we are to have so many supportive people in our lives.

Although a lot of trust goes into the process when things like decor, florals, music, and planning vendors aren’t done in person, Brittani said the biggest lesson learned was that nobody notices the tiny details.

Our wedding coordinator told us on the day before, ‘Nobody is going to know something is supposed to or not supposed to happen, except for you’ and when we thought about that, it really calmed us down. It ended up being true, a couple things didn’t go as planned and not a single person noticed and in the end – we didn’t even end up caring. One piece of advice to future couples – intentionally create moments where you can pause and experience your wedding together. The day moves unbelievably fast. One of our most cherished memories will always be sneaking away to the lobby bar after the ceremony with just us two and taking in together what we had just accomplished and relishing in the magnitude of what we had just experienced together.

Maria & Dimitri
  • The wedding: Riu Palace Costa Mujeres, April 23, 2026
  • The group: 30 guests
  • The advisor: Cassie O’Connor, Liz Moore Destination Weddings
  • The photographer: FilmMar MX, www.instagram.com/filmmar.mx

There is something about Costa Mujeres that feels quieter than the traditional Cancun experience. The beaches stretch wider, the water carries softer shades of turquoise throughout the day, and destination weddings here often feel more intentional from the moment guests arrive, O’Connor said. That atmosphere became the perfect setting for this elevated celebration at Riu Palace Costa Mujeres a wedding weekend designed around relaxed luxury and meaningful guest experiences. This modern tropical style was a perfect experience for our couple Maria and Dimitri who recently celebrated an intimate and one of a kind wedding experiences with 30 of their most beloved guests.

Clorinda Bryant & Benoit Drolet
  • The wedding: Finest Playa Mujeres, April 27, 2026
  • The group: 32 guests
  • The advisor: Janel Ascher, Liz Moore Destination Weddings
  • The photographer: Seasons Photo Studio/Seasons Experiences

According to Clorinda and Benoit, their wedding day at Finest Playa Mujeres could not have been more perfect. Not only were they thrilled with their experience, but their guests also had nothing but wonderful things to say about the resort, the staff, and the wedding team, Ascher said. Clorinda was an absolute dream bride—calm, positive, and excited to enjoy every moment of the experience. She envisioned a perfect wedding day, and Finest delivered exactly that. The wedding staff went above and beyond to ensure every guest felt cared for, including Benoit’s mother, who had mobility challenges. The team graciously assisted her to the beach, demonstrating the exceptional level of hospitality that made such a lasting impression on the family.

Another highlight was how well the couple was able to stay within their budget while still creating a beautiful and memorable celebration.

Their wedding planner provided excellent guidance, helping them select décor and enhancements that maximized both impact and value,” she noted. “Overall, Clorinda and Benoit’s wedding was a tremendous success—a beautiful celebration filled with happy memories, exceptional service, and a truly unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Sarah Tranberg & Todd Meier
  • The wedding: Barcelo Maya Riviera, Nov. 27, 2025
  • The group: 18 guests
  • The advisor: Tammy Prost, Tropical Escapes Destination Weddings and Travel, www.tropicalescapes.ca
  • The photographer: Rodrigo Merediz, Novia Mia Photography

Our booking agent, Tammy, with Tropical Escapes Destination Weddings and Travel made the entire process of organizing travel absolutely seamless and easy,” shared the bride. Tammy took care of everything, explained everything to us and was always available to answer any questions we had. Our wedding experience at the Barcelo Maya Riviera was overall, beautiful. We wanted a small, intimate wedding and cocktail hour on the beach, and that’s exactly what we got. From getting ready at the spa, to being driven to the wedding ceremony in a golf cart by our wedding coordinator, to dancing, speeches and enjoying drinks and appetizers on the beach, it was all beautiful. Even though we had some rain on the wedding day, which thankfully stopped five minutes before the ceremony, the entire process was stress free and was the perfect way to celebrate with close friends and family.
