The largest Mexican hotelier suggests staying in Mexican hotels when in Mexico
The COO of Mexican hotel company Grupo Posadas has some sound advice for those preparing to choose their hotels prior to vacations that they hope will provide a very Mexican experience.
“Don’t stay in a Spanish[-owned] hotel. Stay in a Mexican hotel,” Enrique Calderon told delegates to Mexico’s annual tourism show Tianguis, held in Acapulco in late April.
And Calderon said his company is in a particularly strong position to accommodate those wanting accommodations with a distinctively Mexican ambiance, with a Mexico City-based firm that began in 1970 now having some 200 hotels with over 30,000 rooms in some 60 destinations.
The company says its inventory makes it the largest hotel company in Mexico.
Grupo Posadas properties are overwhelmingly found in Mexico but the company has established a beachhead outside the country, with, for instance, it having a presence in Punta Cana, for instance. But Calderon – speaking at a Fiesta Americana hotel, with Fiesta Americana being one of Grupo Posadas’ brands – said Grupo Posadas guests in Punta Cana will still find Mexican touches, including Mexican dishes, recalling the “amazing” chiliquilis – a Mexican breakfast staple — available in that resort destination.
Grupo Posadas is continuing to add brands, with Calderon noting last year’s debut of Devossion in Playa del Carmen, with that brand designed to “celebrate what life is all about….on a daily basis.”
Calderon told the gathering that his company has “some of the most beautiful properties in Mexico.”
Calderon also touted the launch of Fiesta Americana Travelty Exclusive Experiences – a curated portfolio of 25 immersive concepts designed to “transform each stay into a differentiated and emotionally engaging journey. Spanning gastronomy, wellness, culture, and entertainment, these experiences reflect the growing demand for travel that is more personal, meaningful, and memorable”.
Calderon also reported that the “after an extensive and thoughtfully executed renovation,” Fiesta Americana Villas Acapulco reopened in 2024 and “has reestablished itself as one of the destination’s most important hospitality landmarks.
“More than a reopening, the transformation represents a meaningful milestone in Acapulco’s ongoing recovery. The hotel stands today not only as a fully refreshed resort, but as a visible symbol of resilience, confidence, and renewed energy within one of Mexico’s most iconic beach destinations.”
Grupo Posadas says the renovation of Fiesta Americana Villas Acapulco was approached “holistically, with a clear focus on elevating both guest comfort and overall experience while preserving the welcoming spirit that has long defined the property.”
The project included a complete façade renovation, the modernization of elevators, and the full enhancement of public areas — “resulting in spaces that feel contemporary, open, and inviting.
Guestrooms were significantly upgraded, including the replacement of approximately 90% of the furniture. The result is a refreshed residential-style experience that balances modern comfort with the warmth and familiarity of the Fiesta Americana brand.”
The hotel’s culinary identity was also reimagined, featuring the complete renovation of El Mexicano and Moxaico restaurants, along with the enhancement of El Mexicano Terrace.
The hotel also introduced spaces designed to “enrich the guest stay and create more opportunities for connection and enjoyment, including Third Time Sports Bar, The Coffee Corner, boutique retail space, Fiesta Kids Club, and Mini Golf.”
“The successful reopening and performance of Fiesta Americana Villas Acapulco reflects a broader commitment by Grupo Posadas to invest in key destinations and support their long-term recovery and growth,” Grupo Posadas continued. “As Acapulco continues its path forward, the hotel stands as both a renewed destination for guests and a symbol of resilience.”
