A look at what awaits clients at Dreams Sands Cancun and Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa
The vice president of communication for Hyatt Inclusive Collection is clearly upbeat about the brand’s Dreams Sands Cancun Resort & Spa.
Iván Carballido told delegates on hand for the recent Cancun Travel Mart that the all-inclusive property has a particularly strong selling point in a destination famed for its beaches.
“This resort enjoys a privileged location in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, with a private stretch of 200 metres of white-sand beach – right where we are now,” he said. “Each of its rooms also offers views of the Caribbean and Isla Mujeres: a truly spectacular setting.”
The 414-unit property is in Cancun’s hotel zone.
Those delegates were also told that Hyatt has clearly built a following in the region.
“For me, this resort is a fantastic example of how Hyatt envisions the all-inclusive experience — a segment in which we hold a clear position of global leadership, with more than 150 resorts and 55,000 rooms across the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe,” the gathering heard.
Hyatt also used Cancun Travel Mart to showcase its Secrets Resorts & Spas Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa resort, which was on the verge of opening during the tourism show and is now fully operational. The company held an outdoor, on-site party that drew hundreds of delegates, who were told by one Hyatt official that the property is “really a resort that’s ideally situated for guests to immerse themselves in the rich history of Quintana Roo.”
The adults-only resort, around 13 minutes from Cancun’s airport, “blends regional artistry with elegance,” the official added.
Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa has eight restaurants, none needing reservations. For an additional charge, guests may dine under the stars by the sea or have curated meals in the exclusive wine or agave cellars, “perfect for romantic moments. Six stylish bars and lounges, including a swim-up bar, sushi bar and nightly music lounge offer premium domestic and international spirits. Guests can also savor interactive experiences such as cocktail making lessons,” the resort states.
Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa’s 487 rooms and suites are “designed in a modern coastal theme with tropical minimalism, offering serene escapes with views of the ocean, lagoon or lush gardens. Each features natural textures, handcrafted décor and modern comforts that invite guests to relax and recharge. For an elevated getaway, the Preferred Club offers swim-out, plunge pool, and oceanfront suites all touting expansive private terraces alongside exclusive amenities such as a private oceanfront lounge, rooftop Sky Bar, infinity pool, and a dedicated à la carte option for breakfast, creating an intimate setting for reconnection.”
Dreams Sands Cancun Resort & Spa employee Piero Zaldivar and a couple of his colleagues cheerfully give aspiring tequila enthusiast guests the lowdown on what to do before they do the down-the-hatch routine with an alcohol synonymous with his homeland.
Zaldivar – who carries the title of master tequilero at the resort, part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection – joins forces with coworkers for regular on-site tequila tastings, tastings that will lead to greater appreciation of the spirit and also provide insights on which foods should be matched with tequila.
“Tequila is unique,” he states, adding it’s only produced in Mexico and only 5 Mexican states can produce what can be officially called tequila.
Tequila itself comes from the agave plant, of which Mexico has many varieties but only one of which is used to create the alcohol. Tequila also comes in different colours, a reflection of different aging. Most tequila brands are 38% alcohol.
Zaldivar has no problem with tourists enjoying such tequila-based drinks as Margaritas but adds that those drinking it straight should hold it in their mouths for three seconds without swirling it, something that enhances the flavour. Salt can be useful for Margaritas as it balances the sweetness of those cocktails but those drinking straight tequila should avoid it, he continues.
Helping with the tequila tastings is transplanted Argentinian and Dreams Sands Cancun sommelier Federico Tomassi, whose forte is actually wine but who has become knowledgeable about tequila.
“Now I’m enjoying it,” Tomassi says of tequila while continuing to assist resort guests with their wine selections.
Meanwhile, Zaldivar says those vacationing in Mexico should definitely try tequila before heading home.
“If you go to Cuba you have to drink a mojito,” he declares. “If you’re in Mexico you have to drink tequila. You have to have the experience.”
Also found are six dedicated pools with ocean views, including two exclusive pools and an oceanfront hot tub reserved for Preferred Club guests.
As well, guests will find activities that enable them to immerse themselves in the destination, including an agave journey, which showcases the history, cultivation, and tasting of premium tequilas and mezcals while guided by connoisseurs, or lessons, which explore Mexican local customs, traditions, and history.
The Secrets Spa will provide traditional Mayan treatments using ancient rituals, natural ingredients, and healing techniques passed down through generations that are “designed to restore body, mind, and spirit, as well as a serene pool that welcomes guests to recharge during their stay.”
The resort has a 967-square foot pre-function foyer, 2,800 square foot ballroom and other indoor and outdoor venues to choose from for the likes of cocktail receptions and themed parties to dinners and beachfront weddings.
Meanwhile, Hyatt says the new addition is committed to sustainability.
“Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa has implemented initiatives that prioritize community impact and environmental responsibility. Programs include soap recycling and plastic bottle cap collection to support local health initiatives, community-driven recycling efforts, and a focus on locally sourced culinary ingredients and regional art. These actions reflect the resort’s commitment to reducing waste, supporting local economies, and contributing to long-term environmental stewardship,” the company continues.
