What inspired you to pursue a path in travel, tourism or hospitality?
I am inspired by a passion for travel and cultural exchange, as well as the opportunity to contribute to an industry that connects people and promotes destinations by showcasing their unique experiences and what they offer to a global audience.
What excites you most about the future of this industry?
What excites me most about the future of the tourism industry is its ability to adapt and grow through challenges. The industry has become more focused on sustainability, innovation, and long-term planning, which is helping create a more responsible and balanced approach to tourism. I am interested in being part of an industry that continues to improve and find new ways to support both visitors and local communities.
What’s one experience (in either travel, school, or work) that has shaped who you are today?
My experience working at Fairmont Pacific Rim shaped my perspective by exposing me to guests from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. This helped me become more open-minded, adaptable, and empathetic, while strengthening my ability to communicate and connect with people freely and with confidence.
How do you hope to make an impact through your career in travel, tourism, or hospitality?
My ultimate goal is to work in a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), where I can learn from industry experts while leveraging my own experience to contribute to the growth of the tourism sector. I hope to play a role in enhancing sustainable and engaging travel experiences that attract more visitors and drive economic growth in BC.
Why do you believe travel has the power to change lives or communities?
I believe travel can transform lives and communities by stimulating economic growth, creating jobs, and bringing greater exposure to destinations. Beyond financial benefits, it also encourages cultural exchange and understanding, helping communities grow socially and economically.
What has been your most memorable travel or hospitality experience so far?
Through my Tourism Management program at Capilano University, I had the opportunity and was honoured to participate in multiple field trips across BC, which allowed me to experience the diversity of what the province has to offer beyond nature and hiking. One of my most memorable experiences was visiting Sea to Sky Gondola during my final field trip. Experiencing it in the snowy season for the first time made it feel especially magical and unforgettable.
What destination is at the top of your travel bucket list right now and why?
My top travel destination right now is Japan. I had the opportunity to visit after graduating high school, where I stayed for three months. During that time, I grew to feel very comfortable there and developed a deep appreciation for the people and culture, to the point where it felt like a second home. I would love to return in the near future to explore more rural areas and discover hidden gems – places that I did not have the chance to experience before.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received about travel or your career?
The best piece of advice I’ve received is, “Go where the wind takes you.” During one of my travels, a local shared this with me after I expressed my passion for travel and my desire to pursue it as a career. They encouraged me to travel as much as possible, experience different parts of the world, and embrace opportunities as they come. This advice has stayed with me as a reminder to remain open, adaptable, and curious.
As a Baxter Student Ambassador, what are you most excited to contribute or achieve this year?
As a Baxter Student Ambassador, I am excited to create meaningful connections that will support my growth both personally and professionally. I hope to take full advantage of the opportunities provided, learn from industry professionals, and continue working toward my goals such as traveling and building a career in a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO).
