Firm now offers tours in Latin America, Asia and Europe
Cancun-based tour company Tica en Cancun has clearly become considerably more worldly. The company was founded eight years ago by expatriate Costa Rican Marianne Volio Soto, who moved to Cancun to study tourism and hospitality.
Tica is the Costa Rican term for a Costa Rican woman. Tica en Cancun began life by providing tours of Cancun and the surrounding area, and Volio Soto later decided to offer tours of her homeland as well. But now she’s further broadened company offerings by providing tours to parts of Europe, the Caribbean, South America and Asia. Among available countries are Spain, Italy, Switzerland, France, Peru, Thailand, the Dominican Republic and Colombia.
“Travellers started asking for new places,” she says of the expanded program. “The world’s changing and we have to change too.”
Volio Soto – a participant in October’s Cancun Travel Mart – has actually started a new company division called Tica en el Mundo, or Tica in the World.

The bilingual Volio Soto is happy to work with Canadians eager to explore Cancun and the surrounding state of Quintana Roo or Costa Rica or some other parts of the world. Although Volio Soto isn’t a Cancun native she’s well familiar with Quintana Roo.
“I have eight years here and I know this area very well,” she said. “I always look forward to creating tours.”

The 28 year old acknowledges she’s young but notes she has plenty of experience and is well familiar with both Quintana Roo and Costa Rica and adds she can design tours that combine Quintana Roo’s famed beaches with Costa Rica’s dramatic rainforest.
“Quintana Roo has the best beaches in the Americas, ” she states. “But its not only beaches. It has unique features, such as cenotes.”
Meanwhile, Volio Soto is confident her clients will appreciate the destinations she offers.
“I love travel and that makes me offer the best places,” she states.
