Mexico road show slated for Toronto next month

Representatives from different locales will be on hand

Toronto will again see a Mexico road show featuring exhibitors from different parts of the country, including a project that the Mexican government has long promoted as opening up much of southeastern Mexico to tourists.

The city’s downtown will host Meet Mexico Road Show on Aug. 27, with travel agents and others interested in learning about the country invited to attend.

And, says Ghyslaine Richaud of Mexico-based CIE Special Events, the show’s organizer, the event will attract representatives of the Maya Train, which links popular tourist draws in the Caribbean-fronting state of Quintana Roo with other regional destinations.

“Grupo Mundo Maya (a Mexican state-owned enterprise created to oversee and manage tourism development projects in southeastern Mexico), particularly those related to the Maya Train and operated by the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense,” will attend, she says. “The secretariat is responsible for managing hotels, cultural centres, ecological parks and other tourism services along the Maya Train route.”

The Toronto event — to be held at a Hilton in the city’s downtown core — will also see representatives from Cancun on hand, along with people promoting Magical Towns, communities that the Mexican government has decided are particularly attractive to tourists.

As well, Mexican secretary of tourism Josefina Rodriguez is expected to attend. The evening will include a cocktail and a presentation on Mexico. Complimentary valet parking is being offered to guests. The event follows a similar one last year.

Uniglobe Enterprise travel agent Ethel Hansen Davey, a Mexico enthusiast who visits the country regularly, said she welcomes the road show.

“It is always useful to attend,” she says. “It’s one of the most interesting and easily accessible destinations for our clients so the more we know, the better we are able to recommend particular destinations to our clients, based on their interests.”

Those wanting to attend the Toronto event should email jorge.gamboa.gp@gmail.com. They are asked to specify whether they are a wholesaler, tour operator or a travel agent when sending their confirmation. Another roadshow is expected to take place in Montreal around Nov. 10.
