What’s the most important thing you learned in school?

The most important thing I learned in school is how to adapt and communicate effectively with people from all walks of life. The tourism industry thrives on connection, and school helped me develop those interpersonal skills. I also learned how important it is to stay curious and open-minded, especially in a field as dynamic as travel.

Why did you choose to study travel, tourism or hospitality?

I’ve always been passionate about exploring new places and learning about history and culture; I wanted a career that would let me share that excitement with others. Studying travel and tourism was the perfect way to align my interests with a meaningful, people-focused career. I knew I wanted to help others create unforgettable experiences.

What is your greatest professional strength?

My greatest strength is my ability to connect with people and build trust quickly. Whether it’s through active listening or thoughtful communication, I make people feel heard and supported. This has served me well in both sales and service roles and it’s something I’m proud to bring into my travel career.

In your opinion, what’s the most exciting trend in travel, tourism or hospitality right now and why?

I’m really excited about the rise of immersive, experience-driven travel. Travelers today want more than just a vacation; they want to connect with the culture, people and story of a destination. It’s an incredible opportunity for travel professionals to craft more meaningful and personalized experiences.

What are your goals for the year ahead?

My main goal this year is to begin working as a travel professional and start building strong relationships with clients. I want to earn their trust and become someone they can rely on to turn travel dreams into reality. It’s the first big step in this new chapter of my career.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself as a trusted travel advisor with a strong, loyal client base. I want to be known for providing exceptional service and creating experiences that clients remember for a lifetime. I also hope to be mentoring others just starting out in the industry.

What are some of the top places you want to see in Canada and why?

I’d love to explore the Canadian Rockies, especially Banff and Lake Louise, as the natural beauty there is breathtaking. I have always loved the East Coast as well but have not yet had the opportunity to explore Newfoundland, and I would love to get to experience the culture and stunning coastlines in person. Canada has so many unique regions, and I’d love to experience them all firsthand.

What do you do to engage in travel, tourism or hospitality mindfully/sustainably?

I try to support local businesses and communities wherever I travel. I also make an effort to choose eco-conscious accommodations and avoid overtouristed areas when possible. Being mindful of how my travel impacts others is important to me: it’s about giving back, not just taking in.

Name your favourite travel or hospitality experience so far:

One of my favourite experiences was on a flight as a teenager with two nervous friends. Our flight attendant noticed their anxiety and sat with us, offering reassurance and helping them feel more at ease. Her kindness and attentiveness left a lasting impression on me; it was a powerful example of hospitality at its best.

Name your greatest achievement so far:

My greatest achievement so far has been making the decision to change my career path and follow my passion for travel. It took courage to take that first step, but I’ve never looked back. I finally feel like I’m on a path that truly excites and fulfills me. My success in my academic career solidifies that the decision I made was the right one.

What’s the best OR worst piece of travel advice you’ve received?

The best advice I’ve received is to plan the basics but leave room for spontaneity. Some of the most memorable moments happen when you let the trip unfold naturally. Travel shouldn’t be a checklist, it should be a journey.

What destination is next on your dream travel list and why?

Scotland is next on my dream list, not just for its incredible landscapes and castles but because of my family heritage. I have always felt a strong connection to Scottish culture and visiting would be deeply meaningful. It’s a destination that speaks to both my familial roots and my love of storytelling.
