Destination is promoted as a lively summer holiday retreat
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism is reaching out to people who don’t want to dash home from a Cayman Islands vacation.
Gary Hendricks-Dominguez told delegates to the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s annual Caribbean Travel Marketplace show that research has suggested that the perfect vacation length is eight days and so Cayman tourism authorities have created a promotion that provides visitors with a free seventh night.
“This summer, the Cayman Islands has made it easy for you to have the perfect vacation,” he told his late May Antigua audience. The promotion is available until Aug. 7 for travel through August.
Hendricks-Dominguez said the Cayman Islands are lively during the summer, citing the likes of a summer carnival and June’s Flowers Sea Swim. “If you can swim a mile, chances are you will win something,” he said of the latter.
Since the Caribbean can see hurricanes during the summer, Hendricks-Dominiguez noted the Caymans has a “worry-free guarantee” during hurricane season, with hotels being flexible to guests whose planned stays overlap with an approaching hurricane.
The Cayman Islands are making inroads in the Caribbean market, with Hendricks-Dominguez reporting that Canadian visitations rose 8% in 2024.
The destination is enjoying a growing hotel inventory, with the 100-room ONE|G slated to open in December.
Farther down the road, a 382-Grand Hyatt will open on prominent Seven Mile Beach.
Meanwhile, an existing Caymans hotel has renamed itself The Sunshine Hotel & Suites, and is redoing its guestrooms, its Sunshine Grill restaurant and adding a fitness centre.
Hotel guests have full access to a sister property located across the street on Seven Mile Beach. Those guests have access to the beach loungers, pool, entertainment and “more. We offered serene garden and manicured lawn settings and access to the best beach in Cayman, offering the best of both worlds,” a hotel spokeswoman says.
The Sunshine Hotel & Suites says guests will find it blends “timeless elegance with modern warmth. The Sunshine Hotel & Suites is uniquely Caymanian and authentically laid-back, creating a welcoming space for guests that leave them ready to enjoy paradise.
“The boutique hotel’s interior design effortlessly blends timeless elegance with modern warmth, creating a welcoming space that stands the test of time. Every corner reflects a thoughtful curation of furnishings, offering guests an inviting and enduring atmosphere,” the hotel continues.
