Bermuda carrier BermudAir says it may build its Canadian presence
Bermuda carrier BermudAir says it may build its Canadian presence beyond the trio of cities it now offers in this country. The airline began Toronto service last year, with up to six weekly flights to the Ontario capital, and then added Halifax service shortly after, with up to five weekly flights available. June saw Montreal become the third Canadian city in the BermudAir network, with two weekly flights available to it.
But airline CEO Adam Scott says there may be additional cities joining its network.
“We’re always looking to grow our network and we have additional cities in active consideration,” he says. “We’re very happy with the growing demand on the [Canadian] routes and are seeing steady bookings on all services.”
BermudAir began operation Sept. 1, 2023 with service from New York’s Westchester Airport to Bermuda and added service to Boston shortly after. It currently flies to 11 North American gateways, eight of them in the United States. It has four planes in its fleet, two of them Embraer 175s and the others Embraer 190s.
Scott says his airline can successfully compete against larger and better-known Air Canada when it comes to attracting Canadians wanting to visit Bermuda.
“Well, for a start, Air Canada doesn’t serve Bermuda year-round on any of our three routes,” he reports. “But, aside from that, we offer a better, authentically Bermudian experience. We’re known for our hospitality, and I think our crews are among the friendliest in the industry. We also offer complimentary locally-sourced snacks and beverages, including our nation’s signature cocktail, the Dark ‘n Stormy in economy as well as business class. We are advocates of sustainability, therefore all passengers are served with real glassware. From the moment you step onboard, your voyage is an elevated, intimate journey.”
Scott says Bermuda is a particularly attractive part of the world.
“I might be biased, but I think Bermuda is the most beautiful of the islands,” he states. “Whether it’s the pink sands or the crystalline waters, we offer incredible beauty but also a sophisticated travel experience with great restaurants, world-class accommodations and golf courses as well as our own unique culture.”
Scott also dismisses any suggestion that his airline’s small size puts it at a disadvantage.
“BermudAir is a pioneer in the industry,” he continues. “While small in size, we make up for it in experience. Our agility enables continued growth and frequency expansion.”
