Nearly three decades of ‘Paradise’ at Atlantis in the Bahamas

Atlantis Paradise Island is nearing three decades of hosting guests in a resort that it says is unequalled, unforgettable and unmistakably Bahamian.

The massive resort opened in 1998 and remains the largest resort in the Bahamas, offering among other things multiple accommodation options, a 141-acre waterpark, the world’s largest open-air resort marine habitat, over 40 dining venues, the Atlantis Casino, Ocean Club Golf Course, and Atlantis Marina.

And, says Ann-Sofi Gustafsson, Atlantis Paradise Island’s vice president of leisure sales and marketing, the vacation retreat has certainly made an impact.

“With its world-renowned pink Royal Towers, linked together by the Bridge Suite, and its distinct architecture, Atlantis is an instantly recognizable marvel in the Caribbean,” she says. “Like no other resort, it seamlessly blends marine exploration, thrilling water rides, world-class culinary offerings and authentic Bahamian hospitality in a truly immersive setting.

“Guests are consistently amazed by the grandness of the resort, yet what leaves a lasting impression is the warm, attentive service from our team, setting a standard that’s truly best in class. For many, Atlantis has become a cherished home away from home. With its vibrant energy and breathtaking visual appeal, Atlantis is a destination that’s even more extraordinary in person.

“Atlantis is more than a resort. It’s a blend of luxury, culture and adventure that’s continually evolving while staying true to the Bahamian spirit, offering guests something new with every stay.”

Gustafsson says the resort has won kudos for its expansive open-air marine habitat, aquariums, commitment to marine mammal rescues, rehabilitation and research.

But she adds guests will also encounter what she labels “significant cultural experiences,” such as weekly Junkanoo parades and Art Walk. Junkanoo parades are a distinctively Bahamian cultural expression.

As well, local art sculptures such as “The Sacred Space,” “The Heart Swing,” and the newly debuted “Marina Village Mural” are showcased across the resort. Created by international street artist Kelsey Montague and renowned Bahamian artist Allan Wallace, the “Marina Village Mural in turn is a new interactive photo opportunity for visitors showcasing the “vibrant spirit of the islands.”

All of those offerings collectively ensure that guests are certain to be entertained, Gustafsson continues.

“Atlantis Paradise Island brings together what everyone is looking for in a vacation – sun, sea, and endless ways to unwind or explore,” she adds. “No matter what age, guests can relax on five miles of white-sand beaches, take on the thrills of Aquaventure’s high-speed slides, or enjoy world-class gaming at the Atlantis Casino. The resort also offers fine dining, immersive marine programs, luxury shopping, world-class nightlife and entertainment, and family-friendly activities – all set against the backdrop of vibrant Bahamian culture.”

She also praised the resort for offering a luxury experience that includes “ocean-facing suites,  exclusive services, world-class shopping, Michelin-starred dining and curated Sapphire Services concierge experiences. Guests seeking an upscale experience will not be disappointed. For the seasoned luxury traveler, The Cove and The Reef offers suites with breathtaking views and butler service, exclusive poolscapes, private cabanas and VIP services.”

Atlantis Paradise has recently completed a $250-million transformation, unveiling newly refreshed guest rooms and suites at The Royal, an enhanced Atlantis Casino, reimagined restaurants, updated retail outlets, a mini golf course, escape rooms, and what Gustafsson describes as an exciting lineup of live entertainment. “There’s always something new happening at Atlantis.”

Meanwhile, Gustafsson says the Bahamas is easily accessible from much of this country and offers “some of the most beautiful beaches and turquoise waters… in the Caribbean. In addition, the warmth and friendliness of the Bahamian people and amazing cultural experiences are hard to find anywhere else.”
